In 2024, Danielle and Joe Cain founded Rise & Thrive Education Inc. with a dual mission: to rejuvenate the historic Houghton’s Pond Refreshment Pavilion and to provide a transformative summer learning experience for students at ABCD University High School—a Boston Public School serving students ages 16–21, where Joe currently teaches.
After submitting a proposal through a competitive bid process, we were honored that the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) believed in us and our mission and awarded Rise & Thrive a five-season permit to operate the pavilion.
Our approach blends summer employment with competency-based learning, offering students an opportunity to earn academic credit while developing real-world skills. These experiences—rooted in entrepreneurship, customer service, and community building—are coupled with the social-emotional support our students deserve, especially during the critical summer months.
Equally exciting is our shared vision for the pavilion itself. We are committed to preserving its historic charm while transforming it into a vibrant, welcoming space for the entire community. Our goal is to create a place where families and individuals can relax, connect, enjoy great food, and make lasting memories in one of Massachusetts’ most beloved parks.
